Rare fossils in India threatened

Geologists are calling for an immediate ban on stone mining in the area
A treasure trove of history preserved by nature for millions of years in eastern India is threatened with extinction.
Plant fossils, scattered all over the Rajmahal Hills in Sahebganj district of Jharkhand state, are fast finding their way into the hundreds of crusher machines that are reducing them into stone chips to be used in road construction.

Nasa descobre ‘2ª estrela mais brilhante da Via Láctea’

Astrônomos da Nasa identificaram uma estrela que pode ser a segunda mais brilhante da Via Láctea. Identificada como “estrela da nebulosa Peony”, o astro foi revelado por meio de imagens do telescópio espacial Spitzer. A descoberta foi divulgada pela em artigo na publicação científica Astronomy and Astrophysics.

Segundo os astrônomos, ela brilha com a intensidade estimada de cerca de 3,2 milhões de Sóis como o do sistema solar.
